Cannabis Concentrates What Is Live Resin

There is a new form of BHO making its way through the cannabis community. Known as live resin, this aromatic concentrate is quickly becoming a favorite of connoisseurs, but what is it and why is it so special?

Technological advances have an important role in the modern cultivation of marijuana.

Growing lights are increasingly efficient, innovative fertilization solutions help optimize yields, and breeders do an excellent job with creating strains specially adapted to individual needs. Even the ways of producing concentrates benefit from advances in science and technology. As we understand more about cannabis and its characteristics, we discover new and interesting methods to make the most of our outbreak. This article offers information on one of these new and interesting forms of concentrates: Live Resin.

LIVE RESIN, TERPENES, AND HIGH TECHNOLOGY

There are many ways to extract the desired components of cannabis. With regard to concentrates, the most common is ” butane hash oil” (BHO), marijuana oil extracted with butane. Live resin is actually another form of BHO focused on preserving a stronger and purer taste. While the process of obtaining BHO is relatively simple, the production of live resin is much more complicated.

The form of production is very similar to BHO, but with fresh and ultra-frozen buds, as opposed to the bud simply dried and cured. The cryogenic freezing of the fresh and uncooked bud helps to extract more cannabinoids and terpenes but requires a very specialized team.

LIVE RESIN: A SUPERIOR TASTE

Most home growers know the importance of the drying and curing process. The aromatic package should develop gradually. The production of quality marijuana can be quite similar to that of good wine or cheese. The ripening process is very important for the aroma and flavor of the final product.

Even if the healing process is done perfectly, up to 55-60% of essential oils, also known as terpenes, can be lost. When using freshly harvested buds for live resin production, and ultra-freezing immediately, terpenes and cannabinoids have no time to degrade. That is the main difference with respect to other forms of concentrates.

From a technical perspective, live resin is still a form of BHO produced by exposing the bud to butane. Although it can also be produced by extraction with CO2. After extraction, the impurities are removed with a vacuum oven at low temperatures for several hours.

By containing more terpenes, it has a more liquid consistency. You could say that it is not as stable or rigid as BHO. However, its aroma and flavor are far superior to other forms of concentrates, and they can be extraordinary. In a way, it makes sense, because a few grams of live resin is able to capture the full range of aromas of a freshly harvested plant.

DISADVANTAGES

The live resin has very few drawbacks – its unadulterated taste is what makes this substance so high. But as already mentioned, the production process is quite complicated, and laboratory equipment is needed. Cryogenic freezing usually uses liquid nitrogen at temperatures as low as -196 ° C. Experimenting with liquid nitrogen in the garage or basement can logically entail great risks. Therefore, production is better suited to experts with access to adequate equipment and a laboratory.

Being a quite complex and laborious process, it is usually accompanied by relatively high prices. This high cost also has to do with its power. Marijuana users who have little or no experience with concentrates have to be very careful. The THC levels of the live resin vary between 65-95%, which makes it a perfect concentrate for medicinal or recreational users of dabbing.

POSSIBLE BENEFITS OF THE LIVE RESIN AND OTHER CONCENTRATES

The live resin offers the possibility of taking large amounts of THC and other cannabinoids in a single draft. This reduces the negative effects of smoking on health. It can be very beneficial for patients who use cannabis to fight chronic pain or nausea – and who need quick relief and don’t want to smoke all the time. Its potent effect could also have implications for people who use cannabis to combat other medical conditions, such as the side effects of chemotherapy, epilepsy, migraines, and virtually any reason why people take marijuana.

In addition, science has found that terpenes are not only responsible for aroma and flavor, they also help cannabinoids provide medicinal effects. This could make it become an important concentrate in the future.

Finding it in Europe is a challenge for consumers of medical and recreational marijuana. Unfortunately, there is no legal framework for the production of cannabis-based concentrates. This makes companies and investors have many difficulties to be part of the global development of medical cannabis. Any existing live resin will have been produced illegally, which makes it a scarce and expensive luxury. It is a sad reality of the 21st century, that seriously ill people have to move to a country whose government has decided that the consumption of this plant is legal to be able to treat their health problems. It is time to discuss in a reasonable way and based on facts, how we want to treat marijuana as a society, as a European Union that looks after the interests of its citizens.
